The island of Texel is located in the North West of Holland. It is the largest Dutch "Wadden" island. It lies between the Wadden Sea and the North Sea. Large parts of it are agricultural, other parts of it have seminatural or natural origins. Due to its position in the Wadden Sea, the islands is extremely rich in birds. The south west of the island shows the best example of primary-dune formation in Western Europe, with a corresponding succession in vegetation that makes it also extremely interesting for botanists. This, the range of dunes and beaches in the west, the salt marshes at the Wadden Sea, and the nature reserves at various inland locations guarantees that the island is an endless source of discoveries for naturalists, nature photographers, etc. It is richely provided with bicycle lanes, camping sites, restaurants, and hotels for nature loving visitors.
